Training: CrimeStat III for Crime Analysts

CrimeStat III is a Windows-based spatial statistics software package used for analyzing crime data from law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. The software can be used with a geographic information system (GIS) to support and enhance law enforcement's tactical and strategic analysis efforts.

Participants will learn to:

  • Prepare data for CrimeStat III
  • Produce results
  • Import data into ArcGIS 9.3
  • Import data into CrimeStat III
  • Create basic descriptive statistics using spatial distribution
  • Measure clustering using distance analysis
  • Perform several hotspot techniques, using both single and dual kernel density interpolation

Course Prerequisites

Interested participants must be intermediate-level users of ArcGIS 9.3 and with a minimum of two years experience analyzing crime patterns, series and problems in municipal or county police agencies.
